Lori Hatton, Founder of Nightingale Crossings
About Me
For many years, I have felt the calling to provide a loving presence to those that are nearing death. As a hospice volunteer since 2021 and dog therapy volunteer at a senior healthcare facility since 2016, I have had the honor of knowing many who have transitioned. In this capacity, I have recognized the great need for additional end-of-life support.
At Nightingale Crossings, I strive to provide compassionate care to disarm the fear surrounding death, honor the process, and work towards a “good” death for all of my end-of-life clients. I am honored to be trusted, both in their advanced planning and in end-of-life support for themselves or their family members.
I have received End-of-Life Doula Certifications from the Doulagivers Institute and the University of Vermont and Certifications in Elder Care and Advanced Care Consulting from the Doulagivers Institute. I am a member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA) and have been deemed “NEDA Proficient”. I hold an M.B.A. from the University of Leuven, Belgium and a B.S. from Indiana University. I reside in Evanston, Illinois and provide support to individuals in Evanston and the communities north and west of Chicago.
My Mission
My mission is to provide compassionate care, education, and guidance to support the practical, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those at end-of-life and their loved ones.
As end-of-life care decisions are difficult to make while in the midst of a terminal diagnosis, I aim to work with clients prior to an end-of-life setting and develop a complete Advanced Care Peace of Mind Plan with decisions being made with clear heads and open hearts.
My work also includes support to elderly individuals that could benefit from companionship, whether it be a visit from a therapy dog, a walk in a park, or enjoying a cup of tea at home. Recognizing that each moment is precious, I strive to ensure that all my clients are embracing life in a comfortable and peaceful manner.
I am honored to accompany clients through their end-of-life journey, and am committed to ensuring the dying and their families feel safe, supported, respected and cared for, allowing this time of transition to be one of love, peace, and closure.
In medieval times, the nightingale represented the soul, rising aloft.
